Marvels of the World #7

Hi, guys! This will be the last blog of this series as there are only 7 wonders of the world, and rightfully so, I will only be blogging the 7 most important architectural pieces that influence my portfolio directly. To end off the series, I have chosen a world-famous heritage site that is well-known for its architecture: Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu is arguably among the most amazing architectural wonders on Earth, located in the high mountains of the Andes range in Peru. This ancient citadel was built in the 15th century under the leadership of the emperor Pachacuti. Despite being abandoned at the time of the arrival of Spanish conquerors, Machu Picchu managed to stay away from public knowledge and only began receiving attention from all around the world in the early years of the 20th century. This magnificent architectural monument became an example of the skillfulness and inventiveness of the Inca people.

The uniqueness of Machu Picchu architecture lies in the way how it was perfectly integrated into the natural environment. While other cities had been built by changing nature to create something artificial, architects of Machu Picchu created a city that blended perfectly well with the natural environment of the area. Stones were polished to such perfection that not even mortar could be used in building, and constructions could easily withstand seismic activity typical for the region.

The legacy of Machu Picchu can be seen in the sphere of architecture because it is an excellent example that demonstrates how design may coexist harmoniously with nature. The groundbreaking techniques of building have influenced modern architects and engineers who focus on sustainable and resilient constructions. Machu Picchu has remained a masterpiece of architecture that proves the truth that exceptional design can stand the test of time and nature for more than five centuries after being constructed.
